Applications / Agro-industrial crops / Sugar cane

Sugar cane belongs to the Pulse family, Saccharum genus. Varieties that are cultivated are hybrid of the species Officinarum and Spontaneum.

The biggest productions in sugar cane crops are achieved with temperatures around 30ºC.

Sugar cane is suitable for almost all kind of soils, but best productions are achieved in light soils, if irrigation and fertilization are adequate.

Sugar cane demands a lot of water during all the development of the plant, so the choice of the irrigation system is of vital importance. Sprinkling irrigation is similar to the natural rain, talking about application conditions. A sprinkling irrigation system shows multiple advantages, as the following ones: the possibility to clean the surface of the leaves thanks to the water from irrigation, improving this way the efficiency of sugar cane plants. Sprinkling irrigation also allows us to fight against frosts as well as to reduce the temperature of plants, also allows us to fight against pests simply with the application of irrigation or even by adding to the water from sprinkling irrigation from pesticides to foliar fertilizers.

Sprinkling irrigation in a sugar cane crop, as the percentage of the shadow projected by leaves is around 100% hardly differs, talking about efficiency, from the rest of irrigation systems, as through this irrigation system, the speed of water application is generally slower, avoiding this way the appearance of floodings. Sprinkling irrigation also shows many advantages against other irrigation systems, such as its proved durability, fiability, easiness to maintain, independence on specialized manpower, facility to storage, cost/ha of sprinkling irrigation, residual sale value and so on.
